Sleep Problems
I have had a life-long interest in sleep and how to sleep well.  I am told I had difficulty sleeping even as an infant, but I have managed to learn skills that help me fall asleep easily.   Many people have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep in today's fast-paced world.  When this is the case, I recommend that the person first get a medical exam to determine if there are any physical problems. Once such issues have been ruled out or dealt with, I do an extensive Sleep Inventory to assess your sleep history and identify factors that might be hindering you.  Together, we can make a plan for improving your sleep environment and habits.   If emotional worries or "busy mind" are an issue, we can address those factors as well.

Highly Sensitive People
About 20% of the population falls into this category.  There is nothing "wrong" with sensitive people.  They just have a nervous system that is very finely attuned, which can be easily overwhelmed in today's demanding and over-stimulating world.  The sensitivities can be social (e.g., shyness, difficulty being in crowds, easily flustered), physical (e.g., smells, sounds, medications), or emotional (e.g., easily hurt feeling, crying easily from sadness or joy). Dealing with sensitivity involves figuring out how to take care of yourself in challenging situations.  I teach a variety of stress-reduction techniques, and I help people learn to get past their fears and improve their life-skills.

Anxiety and Phobias Fears can interfere with both your enjoyment of life and your ability to achieve professional success.  They can even interfere with your ability to receive medical or dental treatments.  But that doesn't have to be the case.  Many fears can be lessened or eliminated relatively quickly -- and without potentially re-traumatizing high-exposure to the fearful situation.  I use gentle, low-exposure techniques to treat a variety of fears, including:

  • needle phobia
  • fear of flying
  • dental phobia
  • fear of medical procedures
  • fear of driving
  • agoraphobia (difficulty leaving the house or being in public places)
  • fear of public speaking
